Following law school, Rick worked as a briefing attorney for U.S. District Judge Filemon B. Vela (1981-1983) and for Fifth Circuit United States Court of Appeals Judge Reynaldo G. Garza (1983-1984).

Rick has worked as a personal injury trial lawyer since 1984 and has been Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for over 20 years.
